Check out Italian cinema in Mother Waldron Park curated by HIFF.

  • 5:00 PM Disney’s Pinocchio (G, 1940)

  • 7:00 PM Cinema Paradiso (PG, 1988)

About the films:

PINOCCHIO (G, 1940) - Celebrate Italian storytelling with a special screening of Disney’s beloved 1940 animated classic Pinocchio. Inspired by Carlo Collodi’s timeless tale, the film follows a wooden puppet brought to life who dreams of becoming a real boy. Along the way, Pinocchio encounters adventure, temptation, and important lessons about honesty, courage, and following your conscience. With unforgettable characters like Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro, and the Blue Fairy, Pinocchio offers a magical, family-friendly experience that connects generations through wonder, music, and heart.

CINEMA PARADISO (PG, 1988) - Young Salvatore Di Vita (Salvatore Cascio) discovers the perfect escape from life in his war-torn Sicilian village: the Cinema Paradiso movie house, where projectionist Alfredo (Philippe Noiret) instills in the boy a deep love of films. When Salvatore grows up, falls in love with a beautiful local girl (Agnese Nano) and takes over as the Paradiso's projectionist, Alfredo must convince Salvatore to leave his small town and pursue his passion for filmmaking. Cinema Paradiso explores many universal themes such as nostalgia, youth, dreams, loss and reflections on the past. Cinema Paradiso is a life-affirming ode to the power of youth, nostalgia, and movies themselves.
